Welcome to Star Touring And Riding (STAR) International Chapter #153’s Shepherd’s Corner.  We’re glad you’re interested in our organization as it is a social group whose main goal is to ride and have FUN!!! 

 

We hope that the following FAQs help to answer some your questions about STAR Chapter #153.  Feel free to click here and “Ask a Shepherd” if you have additional questions. 

 

1.       MEMBERSHIP

1.1   What is STAR International?  STAR International is a family oriented group of motorcycle
        enthusiasts throughout the world.

1.2.  What is STAR Chapter #153?  We are a local chapter of the International organization and are
        prime intent is to ride and have FUN!!!!

1.3.   What are the requirements to ride with Chapter #153

  • M1 license
  • Proof of insurance
  • Driver and/or passenger ride waiver
  • The ride waiver will include an emergency number and although it is optional, we highly recommend that you complete this section. 

 

1.4.   Where do I find Ride and Safety Rules?  STAR Chapter #153 rides in a staggered formation and
        have standard hand signals.

1.5.   When and where are the Chapter meetings held?  The third Friday of each month, at 7:00 PM
        at the Western Coffee Cup, 6233 Auburn Blvd, Citrus Heights, between Greenback and Van Maren. 
        The Chapter Calendar will be updated if there are any changes to this information.  Feel free to
        come at 5:30 and have dinner prior to the meeting.

1.6.   When can I use the message board?  If interested in accessing the message board, contact
         your STAR Shepherd. 

 

1.7.   Do I need to join STAR International before I can join #153?  Yes.

1.8.   Do you have to own a Yamaha motorcycle to be a member?  No, all types of motorcycles are
         welcome.  Only the President of the Chapter needs to own a Yamaha street motorcycle. 

 

1.9.   What requirements do I need to fulfill to become a member of Chapter #153?  A minimum
         of three chapter rides and one chapter meeting.  This gives everyone the opportunity to get to know
         each other.  Once this is accomplished a vote by the general membership will be brought up at the
         next meeting. 

 

1.10. What are the chapter dues?  $20 per family per year. 

 

1.11.  Can my children join STAR Chapter #153?  Yes and are included in the $20 family membership.

 

1.12. What are the requirements for attendance and meetings once I become a STAR Chapter
         #153 member? 
You have to attend a minimum of 40% meetings and rides (mix and match) to
         maintain voting status. 

 

1.13. I have never ridden with a group before, can I still join?  Yes.

 

 2.     RIDES

2.1.  How often does the Chapter meet and ride?  Our Chapter meeting is held once a month and we
        try to ride a minimum of twice a month.  This would also include some dinner rides and an
        occasional overnighter.  Watch the message board for impromptu rides as well.

2.2.  Where do rides start?  There are four general meeting locations depending on direction of travel. 
       East – Denny’s in Newcastle off Indian Hill and Interstate 80; North – Denny’s in Rocklin off
       Rocklin    Road and Interstate 80; West - 49er Truck Stop at El Camino and Interstate 80;
       South – Perko’s at Bradshaw & Highway 50.  Some members meet an hour earlier for breakfast

2.3.   How long are the rides?  Chapter rides vary from 4 to 6 hours, and sometimes longer.  Ride
        details will be posted on the calendar at least three weeks prior to ride.
 

 

2.4.   Is it OK to drink alcohol on a ride?  No.  As a family oriented organization we maintain a no
        drinking/no drugs policy. 

 

2.5.   Do I need to ride with a DOT helmet?  The State of California requires that a DOT helmet is
        worn by both driver and passenger and it is recommended by STAR Chapter #153. 

 

2.6.   What should I wear on the rides?  Remember weather and road conditions dictate apparel. 
        Leather is a protector, but not required.  Whenever traveling east into the foothills be prepared for
        colder weather (layers are suggested).  For safety, all skin should be covered and a full face helmet
        is recommended. 

 

3.     PATCHES/ROCKERS

3.1.   What is the difference between rockers and patches?  Rockers identify Chapter, Chapter
         Location, names, events, etc.  Patches are the rest.  The large star worn on the back of the vest
         is considered a patch.  The large Sacramento, CA worn on the back of the vest is an example of
         a rocker.  Also the small Chapter #153 item worn on the front of the vest is a rocker. 

 

3.2.   Where do I get my patches/rockers?  All Chapter patches/rockers are obtained through STAR
         International.  The small Chapter rocker and the large rocker on the back are ordered through your
         Chapter President once you become a Chapter member.  You can order all others through STAR
         International yourself.

3.3.   Are there guidelines as to the appropriate placement of patches and rockers?  Yes.  Click

3.4.   Do I have to have a vest and patches/rockers?  No, but it is encouraged as a group identifier. 

 

3.5.   When can I wear my patches/rockers?  Most anytime, however when wearing your
         patches/rockers, please be aware that you are representing STAR International and STAR Chapter
         #153 and that we are a family oriented organization. 

 

3.6.   What patches/rockers can I wear before I become a Chapter member?  Any patch obtained
          through STAR International. 

 

3.7.   What other patches can I wear?  Please remember that this is a family organization and if you
        have any patches that may be in question, please check with the Chapter President.
 

 

3.8.   Can I fly flags on my motorcycle?  Yes.
